Description: Cells solitary, symmetrically spherical or ellipsoidal in shape, with a nucleus, a mitochondrion, and a chloroplast without pyrenoids, enclosed tightly by a smooth cell wall, measuring approximately 1–3 ?m in diameter. During asexual reproduction, daughter cells are formed within a parental cell wall. Sexual reproduction is unknown. Phylogenetic position differs from that of other genera according to rbcL sequences.
