Type locality: Santa Monica, Los Angeles Co., California, U.S.A. (Gardner 1927: 412). Holotype: N.L. Gardner; Growing on Cystoseira osmundacea, cast ashore.. UC 266339 (Athanasiadis 1996: 412).
