[Tami Island, Gulf of Huon, Papua New Guinea]; (Woelkerling 1998: 357) Lectotype (designated by Adey & al., 1982: 9): Georg Bamler; March 1892; TRH; A26-1494; Heydrich no. 97 (Woelkerling 1998: 357) Notes: Isolectotype: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym).

Taxonomic notes
Gabrielson et al. (2018), based on DNA sequencing, show that at least 20 distinct species are passing under P. onkodes. All of the species placed in synonymy under P. onkodes by Maneveldt & Keats (2014) based on morpho-anatomy are distinct species based on DNA sequencing of their type specimens. - (12 October 2018) - G.M.
