Habitat notes
Widespread in most warm seas. Grew in shallow water on rocks, accumulating sediment in the spaces between the vesicles (Lipkin & Silva 2002). - (21 Jun 2010) - Wendy Guiry

This is a marine species.

Type information
Lectotype locality: Venezia (Venice, Italy) (Silva & al. 1996: 801). Lectotype: Bosc s.n.; LD 15978 (Leliaert & Coppejans 2004: 203). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Egerod (1952: 348) and Olsen & J. West (1988: 106) for more information on the lectotype locality of this species. The herbarium no. cited in Lipkin & Silva (2002: 61) is LD 15977.
