This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladophora hutchinsiae (Dillwyn) Kützing.

Type locality: "In Bantry Bay, not rare." [Bantry Bay, Co. Cork, Ireland]; (Dillwyn 1809: pl. 109) Holotype: Ellen Hutchins; BM-K; 3551/60, n. 7, 8, 9 (Hoek 1963: 60) Notes: An isotype is in herb. Agardh (LD), n. 9325 (Van den Hoek 1963: 60).
