The type species (holotype) of the genus Sarcodia is Sarcodia montagneana (Hooker f. & Harvey) J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cryptonemia limensis (Kützing) J.A.Lewis.

Type locality: Callao, near Lima, Peru; Notes: Type: MEL 685050 (fide J.A. Lewis, Taxon 39: 99, fig. 1. 1990). According to Kützing he examined material in herb. Binder, collector unknown.
