Sicul. 2: t. 191. 1713 [Fig. 1]. – Epitype (designated Ferrer-Gallego & Boisset 2020; 176): Greece, Karpathos, Lefkos, 35°35'30.9"N, 27°04'15.4"E, 31 Jul 2002, O. Seberg & S. Diemar s.n. (C [barcode C10103594]! [Ferrer-Gallego & Boisset 2020: fig. 2]).

Adjective (Latin), knotted, knobbly (Stearn 1973).
