Nomenclatural note
Professor G. Furnari comments (e-mail, 16 June 2009) "...the new combination Codium fragile ssp. californicum, should be attributed to Maggs et Kelly (authors of the treatment of the genus Codium, as reported in Brodie & al., 2007 at page ix). In fact, at page 196, while Maggs is clearly indicated as author of new subspecies, for Codium fragile ssp. californicum is simply reported (J. Agardh) comb. nov. In such a case the authors of the combination are the authors of the chapter, that is Maggs & Kelly." - (16 June 2009) - M.D. Guiry
