The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asparagopsis taxiformis (Delile) Trevisan
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), resembling the genus Taxus.
