This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ectocarpus siliculosus (Dillwyn) Lyngbye
Syntype localities: Cromer in Norfolk and Hastings in East Sussex, England (Dillwyn 1809: 69). Type: NMW (Ricker 1987 Notes: Womersley (1987) cites the herbarium as BM-K.
