This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chaetomorpha aerea (Dillwyn) K├╝tzing.

Syntype localities: "In Salinis ad Tergestum, Ad Venetiam. Ad Angliam." [Trieste and Venice; England]; (Agardh 1824: 99) Notes: A lectotype does not seem to have been selected.

Adjective A (Latin), thick (Stearn 1973).
