The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chaetomorpha aerea (Dillwyn) Kützing.

Syntype localities: "In Salinis ad Tergestum, Ad Venetiam. Ad Angliam." [Trieste and Venice; England]; (Agardh 1824: 99) Notes: A lectotype does not seem to have been selected.
