The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Balliella pseudocorticata (E.Y.Dawson) D.N.Young.

Type locality: Canal de San Lorenzo, near La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico; (Dawson 1962: 21) Holotype: E. Y. Dawson(6934b); 15 March 1949; dredged; UC; LAM(5000047); AHFH(71122) in UC(1839220) (Dawson 1962: 21) Notes: Dawson (1962: 21) notes that the type specimen was dredged from 8-20 m. depth, in the San Lorenzo Channel.
