Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Rosenvingiella is Rosenvingiella polyrhiza (Rosenvinge) P.C.Silva.

Type Information
Type locality: Fortescue Bay, Tasmania, Australia (43° 8' 24.440" S; 147 58' 5.25" E); (Moniz, Rindi & Guiry 2012: 93) Holotype: collected by M.D. Guiry; 2 November 2009; Supralittoral zone; mixed with Prasiola borealis on a flat rock used by seabirds for dropping marine molluscs to break their shells, with abundant bird faeces; semi-exposed to wave action; GALW; 015592 (Moniz, Rindi & Guiry 2012: 93) Notes: Isotype in BM.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Filamentous algae bearing abundant rhizoids. Filaments uniseriate, rarely pluriseriate, unbranched, 20-26 µm broad; cells 1/3-1/6 as long as wide, with thick cell wall. Rhizoids unicellular, up to 150 µm long. Sexual reproduction unknown. It differs from the other species of Rosenvingiella by the thickness of the filaments and the rbcL sequence. It occurs on the shores of southern Tasmania.
