This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodonematella subimmersa (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) S.L.Clayden & G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: U.S.A.: Washington: Whidbey; (Index Nominum Algarum) Holotype: associated with Grateloupia doryphora ; UC; 96094 (Clayden & Saunders 2010: 297) Notes: Collector: N.L. Gardner 289, 289a (Index Nominum Algarum). From west coast of Whidbey Island (Drew, 1928).
