Type locality: Naples, Italy; (Kylin 1924: 57) Lectotype: illustration in Kylin (1924: fig. 44a) (epitype) (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 236) Notes: The only material in Kylin’s herbarium (LD) was collected in 1929 (Maggs & Hommersand, 1993: 236, footnote).

Adjective (Latin), very small; minute (Stearn 1983).

Taxonomic note
Furnari et al. (2003) agree with Gómez Garreta et al. (2001) that in the absence of reproductive structures the taxonomic position of this species remains uncertain.
