Taxonomic note
"The first record of this species from the Mediterranean Sea, with no comment, is that by Aleem (1951: 252, as Rhizoglossum thysanorhizans) from Alexandria (Egypt). The species was later recorded by Augier & Boudouresque (1969) who gave an extensive description (from which we drew the above description of the species) of thalli from Island of Bagaud (The Isands of Hyères, France), collected at - 18m. It should be noted that Aleem's (op. cit.) record was ignored in the above paper by Augier & Boudouresque." (Cormaci & al. 2023: 502). The occurrence of this Atlantic species in the Mediterranean thus needs molecular confirmation. - (07 December 2023) - M.D. Guiry
Habitat note
In the upper sublittoral zone (0.5 m depth) of a rocky semi-exposed shore; epiphytic on Gelidium spinosum and associated with Ceramium spp., Dasya corymbifera and Plocamium cartilagineum (Tsiamis et al. 2010). - (29 April 2011) - G.M. Guiry
