Syntype localities: "Hab. in mari australi ad oras novae Shetlandiae (Menzies!) ad Conception (Bory.)" [South Shetland and Concepcion, Chile] (Agardh 1848: 166). Notes: Lectotype should be a specimen in herb. alg. Agardh from South Shetland Islands collected by Menzies.
