Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodophyllis bifida (J.V.Lamouroux) Kützing.

Type Information
Type locality: "on the stones and submerged rocks of the Hampshire coast " [England]; (Turner 1811-1819: 4) Lectotype: BM; specimen ‘A’ on sheet 000044298 (Woelkerling & al. 2020: 90) Notes: Woelkerling & al. (2020: 8) state 'According to Turner (1809: 4) the neotype (i.e., Turner, 1809: plate 73, specimen g) is "var. ß and was collected by Miss Hutchins [Ellen Hutchins, (17 March 1785- 9 February 1815)] on the stones and rocks of the Hampshire coast, England.' This is incorrect and results from Turner's confusing plate [Roman] and infraspecific labelling [Greek]. The collection of Miss Hutchins [not a named variety] from Bantry Bay refers to pl. 73 b and not to pl. 73 g, the neotype. This does not affect the lectotypification.

General Environment
This is a marine species.
