Type locality: "Porto Valitsa, Kassandra, Chalkidiki Peninsula, Greece"; (Konstantinou & al. 2020: [11]) Holotype: October 10, 2014; depth of 19.3 m; found to live in association with the sponge Stryphnus ponderosus (Bowerbank, 1866).; TAU; (Konstantinou & al. 2020: [11]) Notes: Reference Strain: TAU-MAC 2015T, Thessaloniki Aristotle University Microalgae and Cyanobacteria (TAU-MAC) culture collection.
Eponomy
Named for "Gustave Thuret (1817–1895), a noted French botanist who carried out intense research on marine algae and, among others, established the marine cyanobacterial genus Xenococcus."
