Nomenclatural note
"It should be noted that when Huvé & Riouall (1970) described thalli referred to as Ra. thysanorhizans from the Étange de Berre (Marseille, France), observed that: "...Sur nos exemplaires méditerranéens ce réseau semble un peu moins dense que chez les spécimens de la Manche.". Moreover, in the fig. 2 of that paper (showing the net of microscopic veins), to the sides of the median vein they drew only 1-2 longitudinal veins, as in Ra. mediterranea. As well, also in the illustration of a thallus referred to as Ra. thysanorhizans from the Levantine coast (Spain), Boisset & Barceló (1984: 63, fig. 4) we can see only one longitudinal vein to the sides of the median vein. Unfortunately, both the above French and Spanish thalli weren't provided with cystocarps. For this reason, and in absence of molecular data, the attribution of the above thalli to Ra. thysanorhizans remains doubtful. As well, due to the confusability between Ra. thysanorhizans and Ra. mediterranea, most Mediterranean records of Ra. thysanorhizans should be checked." (Cormaci & al. 2023: 499). - (07 December 2023) - M.D. Guiry
