Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Melobesia is Melobesia membranacea (Esper) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithophyllum stictiforme (Areschoug) Hauck
Type information
Type locality: Mediterranean Sea (Villas-Boas et al. 2009: 242). Lectotype: designated and illustrated in Athanasiadis (1999: 738, fig. 1): S unnumbered (Villas-Boas et al. 2009: 242).
