Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Type information
Type locality: New Ireland, Papua New Guinea (Silva & al. 1996: 197). Lectotype: PC TA33701 (De Smedt et al. 2001: 297). Notes: According to Silva et al. (1996) the epithet durvillaei is correctable to durvillei in accordance with Rec. 60C.1(c) enforced by Art. 60.11 of the ICBN (Greuter et al. 2000).
