The type species (lectotype) of the genus Blossevillea is Blossevillea torulosa (R.Brown ex Turner) Decaisne.

Type locality: Shark Bay, Western Australia (Silva & al. 1996: 643). Holotype: Gaudichaud; Herb. Agardh, LD 2475 (Womersley 1987: 359).
