Type locality: Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia (Hooper 1987: 235). Holotype: TRH B1-1674 (includes slides 1342, 1641, and one unnumbered slide) (Hooper 1987: 235). Notes: Depicted in Wilks & Woelkerling (1991: figs 23, 24). See also Woekkerling (1993: 191). Growing on Acropora sp. (Wilks & Woelkerling 1991).

General environment
This is a marine species.

Found epiphytically on the brown algae Acrocarpia and Cystophora and on the red alga Laurencia in intertidal pools and subtidally to depths of 6 m (Womersley 1996: 173).
