Taxonomic note
"Nitophyllum albidum, was briefly and incompletely described by Ardissone (1875: 48). Later, Ardissone (1883: 254) described the structure of the blade as consisting of "... di cellule pentagone sovrapposte su due serie e che in sezione appariscono rettangolari..." (%u2026two layers of pentagonal cells appearing rectangular in section). But, when, later, Ardissone himself (Ardissone, 1886: 302), considered N. carybdaeum Borzì as a synonym of his species defined as "imperfettamente descritta" (imperfectly described), stated that the blade of both N. albidum and N. carybdaeum, were actually monostromatic justifying his mistake saying that "...probabilmente non dipende che dall'aver io condotto il taglio attraverso di una porzione di fronda raddoppiata."
