Type locality: at the Marine Laboratory, Prov. of Sagami, Pacific coast of middle Japan (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 143). Holotype: Y.Yendo; 1899; "paa [= on] Padina arborescens". TRH A17-1023 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 143).
Origin of species name
Participle (Latin), becoming white; applied to plants covered with greyish-white pubescence.
