The type species (lectotype) of the genus Aglaophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Schizoseris griffithsia (Suhr) M.J.Wynne.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), snake-like, i.e., bent forwards and backwards into a wavy line; growing on serpentine rock (Stearn 1973).
