This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Ralfsia.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ralfsia fungiformis (Gunnerus) Setchell & N.L.Gardner

Type locality: "ad saxa in mari Islandico" [Iceland] (Agardh 1817: 40).
