Nomenclatural note
"This species, basionym of the variety above treated, was described by C. Agardh (1828: 130) from Marseille (France) and later illustrated by Kützing in his Tabulae Phycologicae (Kützing, 1862: 9, pl. 26/a-e). Ardissone (1864: 30) recorded it from Acireale (Sicily, Italy), but erroneously, because, as later acknowledged by himself, his specimens were to be referred to as G. furcellata (= Anotrichium furcellatum) (see the note to Anotrichum furcellatum, at the entry G. ardissonei)."
