Distributional notes
According to Graham et al. (2015), this is known from freshwater; they record it from Lake Mendota in Wisconsin. - (07 August 2015) - G.M. Guiry
Samples identified as Monostroma grevillei by Saunders & Kucera (2010) segregated into two clusters M. grevillei sp.1 and M. grevillei sp. 2 (neither matching Gayralia oxyspemum rbcL sequence). This suggests the presence of cryptic species within Monostroma grevillei in the northwest Atlantic. - (15 April 2013) - G.M. Guiry
