Published in: Zanardini, G. (1878). Phyceae papuanae novae vel minus cognitae a cl. O. Beccari in itinere ad Novam Guineam annis 1872-75 collectae. Nuovo Giornale Botanico Italiano 10: 34-40, no figs.
This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Ceratodictyon.
Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type locality: Wokam, Aru Islands, Indonesia (Silva & al. 1996: 355). Type: Museo Civico, Venezia? (Yoshida 1998: 842).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), spongy, porous, soft like a wet sponge (Stearn 1985).
