Type locality: Not specifiedLepocinclis fuscastrain ACOI 1414, permanently preserved material (cells in resin, for electron microscopy) (epitype) (Kosmala et al 2005: 1264). Notes: Kosmala et al. (2005: 1264) give the following data: Lectotype: Fig. 13 in Über die Oganisation einiger Flagellatengruppen und ihre Beziehungen zu Algen und Infusorien, Plate 3, 1883; Epitype: Lepocinclis fusca strain ACOI 1414, permanently preserved material (cells in resin, for electron microscopy) deposited at the Herbarium of the department of Plant Systematic and Geography at Warsaw University, PL-00-478 Warsaw, Poland. Fig. 1A is an illustration of the epitype.

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), a sombre brown, but often used to indicate darkness of colour (Stearn 1973).
