[Georgetown, Tasmania]; (Harvey 1844: 433) Lectotype (Gunn 1263. tetrasporangial; designated by Womersley 1998: 428): TCD; herb. alg. Harvey (Womersley 1998: 428) Notes: Womersley (1998: 428) notes that there are isolectotypes in TCD also at BM and MEL (Gunn's book).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), villous, shaggy with farily long soft straight not interwoven ascending hairs (Stearn 1983).
