The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.

Type locality: southern Germany, peatbog Rauhen Wiese near Böhmenkirch (Schwarzwald) (Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al. 2020: 1146). Holotype: Pochmann 1942, fig. 107: Fig. 4a (Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al., 2020) (epitype) (Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al. 2020: 1146). Notes: GenBank MN149571. Representative locality: freshwater, Urwitalt, pond 19 (53°50'38.0"N, 21°38'06.5"E.

Origin of species name
Adjective B (Latin), elegant (Stearn 1973).
