Type species
This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Phycopeltis.

Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Type information
Type locality: Freiburg im Breisgau, southern Germany (‘Friburgi Brisgavorum in sylvis humidis detecta nec infrequens’) Notes: A type was not designated. Millardet ‘s (1870) fig. 29 is suggested as a lectotype (Rindi, April, 2002).

Heterotypic Synonym(s)
Chromopeltis irregularis Reinsch 1875
Phycopeltis maritima Karsten 1891
Phycopeltis microcystis Schmidle 1897

Distributional notes
According to Rindi et al. (2004), a taxonomic reassessment is desirable for extraeuropean records of this species. Although records of this species are available for the British Isles, this species probably does not occur in Britain and Ireland (Rindi et al., 2004; Rindi 2011: 571; Skaloud et al. 2018: 222).

Habitat notes
Forming small spots on needles of conifers (Abies) and leaves of angiosperms and mosses (e.g., Hedera, Rubus, Leskea) in shaded habitats. - (20 Mar 2018) - M.D. Guiry

General environment
This is a terrestrial species.
