The type species (holotype) of the genus Cerataulus is Cerataulus turgidus (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ralfsiella smithii (Ralfs) P.A.Sims, D.M.Williams & Ashworth .
