Lectotype locality: Roundstone, Co. Galway, Ireland (Foslie 1905: 96). Lectotype: M.H. Foslie; 18 April 1899; “"sample a"” on Gigartina [Mastocarpus stellatus].. TRH A15-884 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 125). Notes: Chamberlain (1994: 116) records selecting a lectotype in TRH. Syntypes from Sweden (Koster), Denmark (Nyköbing Mors), and Norway (Hvalöerne).
