The type species (holotype) of the genus Zonaria is Zonaria flava C.Agardh.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Nomenclatural notes
Womersley (1967: 228) rejected this name as a nomen dubium on the grounds that the type specimen (from Australia) represents the basal prtion of an undeterminable Zonaria.

This is a marine species.

Type information
Type locality: "ad oras Novae Hollandiae" (probably near Sydney, Australia) (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 613). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Allender & Kraft (1983: 81) for more information on the type locality of this species.
