Type, the larger specimen (1043g)."; (Howe & Taylor 1931: 33) Type: Hassler Expedition 1043b; 1872; dredged; FH; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: According to Guimarães & Amado-Filho (2008: 386), the holotype is in NY and it was collected in January 1872.

Adjective (Latin), thin, fine, slender (Stearn 1973).
