Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Origin of species name
Noun (Latin), false lunula, diminutive of luna, moon (Brown 1956).

Heterotypic Synonym(s)

Nomenclatural notes
Elbrächter & Drebes (1978: 362, fig. 8a): "supposedly validates Swift, who failed to provide an illustration (but he did indirectly cite illustrations and I would accept it)" (Silva, INA). Silva also notes that "even if Swift is not accepted, there is Drebes, Marine Phytoplankton, p. 150, figs 133-134, 1974" (not seen by AlgaeBase). - (14 Oct 2014) - Wendy Guiry

General environment
This is a marine species.
