Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Siphonocladus is Siphonocladus wilbergii F.Schmitz.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cladophora valonioides (Sonder) Kützing.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 784) Holotype: Preiss; MEL; 597564 Notes: According to Womersley (1984: 198) the type of Cladophora valonioides Sonder 1845 is from Western Australia, probably near Perth. He also notes that there are isotypes in Herb. Harvey, TCD (3 specimens) and MEL, 597565.
