Taxonomic note
Ross & Irvine (1967) note: "In Linnaeus's Herbarium there is a specimen [no. 1278. 5] bearing the Flora Lapponnica number "527". The sheet also bears the number "5", which corresponds
to the number given to B. cryptarum in the Species Plantarum: this number was not
noticed by Savage (Cat. Linn. Herb. p. 203. 1945) because it is on a small sheet
which has been turned sideways. Alston (in Proc. Linn. Soc. Lond. 168: 103. 1957)
comments on the small size of the sheets in the main Flora Lapponica Herbarium
in Paris, which includes no cryptogams. This specimen is the appropriate choice
as lectotype of the species and has been identified by the senior author as Trentepohlia
aurea (L.) Mart. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
