The type species (lectotype) of the genus Pseudolithophyllum is Pseudolithophyllum fuegianum (Heydrich) M.L.Mendoza & Cabioch.

Lithophyllum mildbraedii Pilger 1919
John et al. (2003) cite Lithophyllum retusum Foslie as as synonym of this species. “We have followed Chamberlain (pers. comm. ) who considers Lithophyllum retusum and L. mildbraedii to be conspecific based on an examination of their types.” (John et al., 2003).
