The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.

none (INA) (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype: fig. 15c in Pochmann 1942: Epitype; Fig. 1, m and n (cells in resin for EM from strain ASW 08018, in WA, Poland) (epitype) (Karnkowska-Ishikawa et al. 2010: 179). Notes: Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al. (2020: 1148) note that the epitypification statement published in Karkowska-Ishikawa et al. 2010 (p. 178) does not include the phrase "designated here". They designate the epitype (Kosmala et al. 2007, fig. 1m ) in their 2020 publication. GenBank FJ590498.
