The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.

Type locality: Indochina (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype: Lefèvre 1931, fig. 40: fig. 3u (Lukomska-Kowalzyk et al., 2020) (epitype) (Lukomska-Kowalczyk et al. 2020: 1147). Notes: GenBank MN149581 (Lukomslka-Kowalczyk et al., 2020).
