This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Siderocystis.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Siderocystopsis punctifera (Bolochonzew) Hegewald & Schnepf.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), a sombre brown, but often used to indicate darkness of colour (Stearn 1983).

This is a freshwater species.
