General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Vegetative thallus branched filamentous, 3–7 µm in diameter containing one to two parietal plastids, light brown in color. Cell walls composed of layered fibers and including alginates, but without cellulose. Plastids typical chromophyte type, containing chlorophylls a and c, and abundant fucoxanthin. Zoospores produced in separate chambers by subdivision of vegetative cells, teardrop-shaped with two laterally inserted heterokont flagella, each with a transitional helix distal to the basal plate. Anterior flagellum longer, with tubular mastigonemes. Posterior flagellum shorter with weak green autofluorescence and a basal swelling associated with an eyespot composed of a single layer of globules within the chloroplast.
