Nomenclatural note
Illegitimate. According to De Clerck (2003), this is a new name based on Fucus linearis Forsskål (1775: 190), which is not priorable as it is a later homonym of F. linearis Hudson (1762: 467). Fucus linearis Forsskål was considered conspecific with D. fasciola by C. Agardh (1820: 136) based on an identification of a specimen by Hornemann, but an original Forsskål specimen in BM belonged to D. dichotoma var. intricata (C. Agardh) Greville. Whether this is the only extant specimen remains unclear. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
