Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota dichotoma var. intricata (C.Agardh) Greville.

Type locality: [Tangier] Tanger, Morocco; (De Clerck 2003: 178) Type?: (De Clerck 2003: 178) Notes: De Clerck (2003) notes that it is difficult to determine if the specimen of D. verrucosa in Herb. Sonder (MEL 537294), which was illustrated by K├╝tzing (loc. cit.), is the original type material as it does not contain the name of the taxon in Suhr's handwriting.
