Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ganonema is Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Y.-C.Wang.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Type information
Type locality: Sand Key, Florida, USA (Silva & al. 1996: 126). Lectotype: TCD Herb. Harvey (Huisman, Abbott & Sherwood 2004: 302, fig. 125). Notes: According to Huisman (2002: 828), Harvey (1853) did not indicate a holotype. Two specimens are included in the type collection, of which only one is labelled 'Liagora pinnata' in Harveys's hand. This specimen is shown in Fig. 125 (Huisman, 2002) and is designated as the lectotype.
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), with leaflets arranged on each side of a common petiole.

This is a marine species.
Habitat
Apparently widespread in tropical regions (Huisman 2006: 44).
